Training for the Valais downhill races was won by Nina Ortlieb. But the big favourites, including the Swiss, also placed well.
The sun was already out this Thursday in Crans-Montana for the first and only training for the downhills on Friday and Saturday. In these idyllic conditions, Nina Ortlieb performed best overall. The Austrian passed the test with flying colours, pushing Federica Brignone into second place by 0″96, and Joana Hählen by 1″03. The skier from Bern was out for revenge, after celebrating a podium place last year, only to be pushed into 4th place due to timing issues.
Nina Ortlieb, daughter of the 1992 Olympic champion Patrick Ortlieb, has already finished in podium places 4 times on the Valais piste. “I managed to find my pace straight away”, said the pleased 23 year old Austrian. I love this beautiful piste.”
The other Swiss who had been expected to stand out on the Mont Lachaux course did not disappoint. Corinne Suter, who is chasing the downhill trophy, finished in 5th place. Lara Gut-Behrami, who missed her approach into two turns, took 10th place on a piste that she appreciates a lot. Regarding the favourites, Nicole Schmidhofer finished in 4th place and Petra Vlhova in 7th. Ester Ledecka (42nd) finished a long way behind.
