The FIS International Ski Federation, in agreement with Swiss-Ski, has decided to award the Alpine Combined event which was cancelled at Altenmarkt-Zauchensee (AUT/15.01.) to Crans-Montana. The new event schedule for the Haut-Plateau is as follows:
Friday 24 February
Alpine Combined (ex Altenmarkt-Zauchensee AUT)
Saturday 25 February
Sunday 26 February
The three races will be broadcast live by SRG SSR, the host broadcaster.
In order to declare a clear Alpine Combined winner at the end of the season, at least three events must be held. Although the Val d’Isère Alpine Combined event (16 December 2016) took place in good conditions, the one scheduled in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee (15 January 2017) was cancelled in order to hold the Downhill, which due to the large amount of fresh snow, couldn’t be held the previous day. The final phase of the 2016/17 event will now be held in Crans-Montana. In the light of current rankings (after Val d’Isère), suspense reigns: 1. Ilka Stuhec (SLO) 100 points. 2. Michelle Gisin (SUI) 80. 3. Sofia Goggia (ITA) 60. 4. Wendy Holdener (SUI) 50. 5. Michaela Kirchgasser (AUT) 45. 6. Federica Brignone (ITA) 40. 7. Denise Feierabend (SUI) 36.
With these three events and an incredibly attractive entertainment programme, and just one week after the St. Moritz World Championships, the weekend of 24 to 26 February promises to be a passionate one in Crans-Montana. It’s sure to be a great celebration, and one to delight skiing fans.
