Preparations for the World Cup are in full swing

In Crans-Montana, preparations for the upcoming European Cup (18-19 February) and Women's World Cup (25-26 February) races are well underway. Marius Robyr, president of the Organising Committee, headed a final meeting before the competitions to motivate the 99 heads of department and their deputies to prepare for their tasks.

The Mont Lachaux piste is already in excellent condition for the forthcoming races indicated the technical department, which has been significantly reinforced, and is newly headed by Stéphane Robyr. As is the case in the other World Cup races organised in Switzerland, the Swiss Army will be assisting the OC in a variety of areas to ensure the perfect organisation of the event. In the 2023 edition, it is the reinforced Exploration Battalion 1 (Bat expl 1) commanded by Lt-Col EMG Patrick Kübler that will be on site, the Exploration 1/1 Company (Cp expl 1/1), commanded by Captain Salomé Steiger, and the Command Engagement Company PDG (Cp eng cdmt PDG) commanded by First Lieutenant Enea Engelhardt, a total of 220 soldiers.

This latest edition of the Women's World Cup will also be an opportunity to celebrate skiing on the Haut Plateau. After an enforced break due to the Covid pandemic, the Friday and Saturday evening ceremonies are back (24 and 25 February) at the Ycoor ice rink in Montana, and will feature the best female skiers in the world. The ceremonies are in addition to an already extensive programme of entertainment which is sure to delight ski fans. Spectators will also be able to enjoy themselves in the Sponsors' Village at the foot of the Violettes gondola, where there’ll be games, food and music pre- and post-race for the fans present.

With the FIS awarding the 2027 Alpine World Ski Championships to Crans-Montana, demands on the local Organising Committee have naturally increased. This is why Caroline Kuyper, CEO of the Crans-Montana 2027 Organising Committee, was keen to introduce herself at the meeting for the heads of department and their deputies, and share her great passion for snow sports. The presence of the new director, who took up her post on 1 January, was very much appreciated.
